The City of Fayetteville, located in Cumberland County, NC is seeking to fill a vacancy for a Building Inspector in the Permitting and Inspections department. Qualified individuals should currently possess a Building Inspector Level II or III certification OR have the ability to pre-qualify through the Department of Insurance as a Building Inspector II or III by having experience working as a Licensed Contractor, Licensed Architect, or a Licensed Engineer. Typical duties include performing building field inspections for all types of building structures and facilities for NC code compliance. Work requires, but not limited to, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, lifting, oral communication, and working in internal and external environmental conditions.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting salary for a Building Inspector is $36,209.

Under the City of Fayetteville's Career Track plan for Building Inspectors, a Level II Building Inspector is entitled to additional compensation of $7,500 bringing the salary to $43,709. A Level III Building Inspector would be entitled to additional compensation of $15,000 bringing the salary to $51,209. The successful candidate may obtain additional supplemental compensation of $3,750 for a Level II certification in a secondary trade (Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing). Compensation is awarded AFTER the candidate has successfully obtained the certification(s).

If selected for an interview, proof of certifications or pre-qualification from the DOI will be required. The hiring process will consist of a panel interview with the successful candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED; experience in the inspection and construction trades; possession of valid NC driver's license.

 

If pre-qualified by DOI, the candidate must receive his or her Building Inspector Certification within 24 months of hire.
